Facebook Fan Friday: Meet Laine Dakin

Every week on my Facebook Fan Page Lou Loves Learning I am going to be featuring a Facebook Fan of the Week. This was an idea given to be by Ann Evanston and it’s something she has used on her Warrior-Preneur blog and Facebook page. Ann gave me permission told me to steal her idea in her Warrior-Preneur newsletter and I didn’t need telling twice!

I’d like to introduce you to my very first Facebook Fan of the Week. I first met Laine in a Linked In group and we quickly discovered that we have a lot in common. We are both British, both have two daughters and we both have a huge interest in growing our presence on social media as entrepreneurs.

We became friends and, even though we have never met in person, we have talked on the phone many times and feel like we have known each other for a long time. I am very happy to say that Laine encourages me in everything I am doing and I would like to do the same for her so I am absolutely thrilled that she is my first ever Facebook Fan of the Week and that I can introduce her to you all. I hope you will all read her Q & A and follow her on twitter, friend her on Facebook, connect with her on Linked In and read her blog Thoughts From Abroad.

Here’s to growing networks and becoming friends :)

What would you like readers to know about you personally?

Wow! What a question – I’m a Brit living abroad, I’ll always be British but I’m very proud to be an American. I’m a single Mum/Mom to two teen girls (pray for me please). I believe wholeheartedly in passion.. not the romantic kind although that would be nice, (applications via Lou please) but more that if you do not put passion into everything you do you’re shortchanging everyone including yourself.

And what do you do?

I’m a full time Mum,
I am the Social Media Coordinator for Pure Essence Labs (manufacturer and
distributor of food grade holistic vitamins and supplements)
I am the Editor of Thoughts From ABroad – an Inspirational and
Informational website for women dealing with challenges and reinvention.

Who is your greatest supporter in life and work?

My daughters Jessica and Mackenzie who happily facilitate my craziness and
My boss Alan who encourages me with my writing and social media plans.

Who or what inspires you?

Great question!  My list includes:  My sister Lindsey, my hero and friend who stepped into a man’s world of precision engineering over 20 years ago faced with every gender bias possible and earned the respect and admiration of hard bitten production line workers to become their hero too; Valentina Tereshkova, my childhood hero (1st woman in space, she piloted Vostok 6 in June 1963)now there is a step out of your comfort zone;  Julie Tullis who was strong and cared about others until the end (a British mountaineer,my mentor and friend who died on K2 in August 1986) and many more who show their courage, strength and passion every day in everything they do!

What are your goals?

* To inform and inspire those around me.
* To grow my website sharing the stories of women overcoming challenges in
their lives to find their passion to inspire other women to do the same.
* To further my social media career to help other people grow their
business by aggregating information.
* To be a Thought Leader, Inspirational Speaker and social media evangelist.

How can people connect with you?
